Test Drives for Sligo Sports Clubs have started

Our ‘Simply Clever’ Sponsorship Competition for all Sports Clubs in Sligo officially commenced on Wednesday 18th of June.  We welcomed people into our showroom to take a Test Drive in a 142 ŠKODA to earn points for a Sports Club of their choosing.  The competition is running until the 31st of July so come along for a Test Drive in a 142 ŠKODA to earn points for your club.

Many clubs have registered to take part in this competition with a wide range of clubs involved.  We have Basketball, Golf, Football, Hurling, Golf, Hockey, Athletics and Martial Arts.

Let us introduce some of the clubs

St Patricks GAA – The Club based in Skreen/Dromard was founded    in 1953. Sligos most famous footballer is from there club – Mickey Kearns.  Throughout the 1960′s, 70′s,80′s and early 90′s we were one   of the most successful senior clubs in Sligo.  We are the last club in Sligo to win back to back senior titles in 1988 & 1889, 25 years this year.  Mark Boland is pictured here at the launch of the competition.

Collooney Kickboxing Club – are a successful Martial Arts club run by Sensei Des Leonard. The club has many awards under its belt including 4 World Champion Kickboxers, 5 European Champions and numerous National Champions.  Sensei Aine Oates is pictured with junior members of the club many of whom are travelling to the   European Championships later this year.

Team Chain Driven CyclesDavid Downes: David Downes is a     45 year old endurance athlete. In April 2015 he will be attempting to complete The Marathon Des Sables the toughest footrace on earth.                                                               This involves running 7 marathons in 6 days, self-sufficient across the                                                   Sahara Desert.

Sligo All-Stars Basketball Club is one of the oldest basketball clubs   in Ireland, established in 1965 it caters for boys & girls of all ages from U-6 to Senior level. It’s home is in the Mercy College Gym in Sligo City.   Shane O’Meara and Fergal Kelly both joined us for the launch of the competition (pictured across).

Easkey GAA, founded in 1888, celebrated their 125th anniversary last year. The club have contested 16 County Sligo Senior Football Championship finals and have won 7 Senior league titles while. They hold 2 County Sligo Senior Hurling Championship titles.   To date in 2014 they have captured the U16 A Football Shield, the All Ireland U13 Girls Novice Rounders Championship and their Scór na nÓg group captured the Connacht Final.
